Thailand's Traditional Sports
The rich culture of Thailand exhibits a stunning array of traditional sports. On that note, here are some of these amazing athletics. To begin with, Muay Thai, otherwise called as Thai kickboxing, is a combat type sport that has continued to amaze practitioners as well as spectators all over the world not only for its fierce and deadly techniques, but for its effectiveness against other forms of martial arts as well. Throughout its long legendary history, it has never stopped developing due to the support of the Thais themselves.
Next, Krabi Kra-bong is another type of combat sport that Thais consider as a big part of their culture. Although not as famous as Muay Thai, it is still commended for its deadly sword and pole fighting techniques that are integrated with a unique form of boxing. Besides being a competitive activity, it has also been used as a form of entertainment in many occasions. In such cases, the contestants are asked to perform a ‘Wai Khru' that is synchronised with a traditional music.
Furthermore, another famous sport in Thailand is the Sepak Takraw. Although there are many speculations as to where it originated, it has been accepted as a part of their traditional activities. This type of game is somewhat related to volleyball. The only noticeable differences between the two are the use of feet and rattan balls for the former, while the latter uses arms to hit its leather-made balls.
Last but not the least, the so called Len Wow or simply kite flying. Usually, it is regarded as a leisure activity and is commonly done during summer season. However, there are cases that this pastime has been used as a sport. The sport type Len Wow uses kites which are designed for fighting, called Pak-Pao and Chula.
